Susan Massy

Susan Massy built an empire of student publications at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Shawnee, Kansas, with the school’s yearbook, news magazine and online publications. The Lair was named #1 in NSPA’s Top 100 and the Northwest Passage was listed in the Top 100 as well. In March, Massy received the Charles R. O’Malley Award for Excellence in Teaching. She was awarded CSPA’s Gold Key Award in 2016. In 1999, Massy was named the National Yearbook Teacher of the Year by the Journalism Education Association and received the NSPA’s Pioneer Award in 1997 as well as the Engel Award (Kansas Journalism Teacher of the Year) in 1994. Massy, who recently retired, travels nationally to teach and present at conventions and summer workshops.
